MUNCIE, IN – The first of four blood moons are on the rise, beginning this month- April 15, 2014-which will be visible in both North and South America. The following 3 blood moons will occur over the course of the next 18 months: The second on Oct. 8th (2014), the third on April 4, 2015 and the last blood moon will occur on September 28, 2015.

This Earth-Space phenomenon is known as and defined by NASA as the “Blood Moon Tetrad”

“If I live in Indiana, can I see it?”
Provided clear skies and ideal atmospheric conditions. Yes.

NASA officials report via Space.com: The first of four blood moons (a type of total lunar eclipse in which the trajectory of earth’s orbit passes exactly between the moon and the sun) will occur on April 15th and last about 78 minutes; Beginning at 3:07 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, with peak visibility occurring at 3:36 a.m., then ending at 4:25 a.m.

Is it safe to view it without protective lenses?

Yes. Lunar eclipses are safe to view and do not cause damage to the eye. Solar eclipses WILL cause damage to the naked eye if viewed without protective gear.

What causes the mood to turn “blood-red”?

At first, the full moon will just appear to be a little darker than normal, but eventually people will notice a much darker arc moving across the moon, with a distinct rusty reddish-brown color,” said astronomer Gerald McKeegan at the Chabot Space and Science Center in Oakland, California/Earth Space Sky Magazine. He continues: “The bloody red color the moon takes on during an eclipse is caused by refraction of sunlight by the Earth’s atmosphere. It is the same effect that you see when the sun turns reddish-orange at sunset, only in this case the refracted sunlight projects all the way to the moon.”

What is the worldwide significance of the “Blood Moon Tetrad” and what can we expect as they occur over the course of the next 18 months?

According to International Business News (Athena Yenko), some fundamentalist religious groups have issued statements predicting and warning of various outcomes related to the impending Blood Moon cycle: The coming of the Anti-Christ and the Second Coming of Christ (The End Times) much the same way they warned of the December 21st, 2012- End Times.

To bear witness to this phenomenon (or prepare for the end, whichever one may choose)- rest up, then wake up at about 3am, Eastern Standard Time.  Look skyward to see….
