Rally Against WellPoint in Indianapolis
WHAT: Rally at WellPoint Shareholders’ Meeting
WHEN: Wednesday, May 16, 2012 @ 8:00am
WHERE: Hilton Hotel, 120 W. Market St., Indianapolis, IN
We invite you to join WellPoint health plan members, shareholders and concerned citizens from around Indiana tomorrow morning in downtown Indianapolis to demand the company stop spending policyholder premiums and taxpayer money to advance a political agenda that aims to hurt working families.
Using policy holder’s premium dollars, WellPoint supports extremist lobbying groups like the American Legislative Exchange Council, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce as well as politicians who support anti-union laws like the governors of Ohio, Wisconsin and Indiana.
This support not only undermines the standard of living of working Americans, it creates reputational risk to the company and its investors while harming its customers.
To bring attention to WellPoint’s practices, a rally will be held beginning at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday morning outside of their annual shareholder’s meeting at the downtown Indianapolis Hilton. Shareholders, policy holders and community leaders will call for WellPoint to change its policy of supporting anti-worker groups.
WellPoint is the latest corporation to be held to account by the 99%. Around the world, working people have been making their voices heard at shareholder meetings, including those of Bank of America, Cigna, General Electric, Wells Fargo, Carnival Cruise Lines and other companies. The AFL-CIO, 99% Power Campaign, Health Care for America Now, Central Indiana Jobs with Justice and other grassroots groups are targeting corporations that have abused their vast economic power.
